Maine Middle Eastern Ensemble performs folk, classical and art music from the Turkish, Arabic and Armenian traditions. Led by oud player Eric LaPerna, the group also features guitarist Jeremey Zela, percussionist Dorothy Barker, and upright bass player, Duane Edwards. Joining them for this special event will be belly dancer, Josephina Gasca. Josephina believes in the transformative power of dance. She began belly dancing in Chicago in 1998 with Jasmin Jahal. After moving to the East Coast in 2003, she found home with Jamileh, her mentor and friend. Josephina currently performs, teaches, and hosts many area events in Mid Coast Maine. While she loves to perform, teaching is her greatest joy.
